With prostate screening using the PSA test, you can detect prostate cancer at an early stage. Common symptoms of prostate conditions include problems urinating and erectile or potency disorders. These complaints can result from changes in prostate size, inflammation (prostatitis), or urinary tract infections. They can also be an early indicator of prostate cancer.
This self-test measures prostate-specific antigen (PSA). Prostate cancer cells generally produce more PSA than benign cells, causing the PSA level in the blood to rise. Elevated PSA levels in the blood can also indicate other conditions such as inflammation.
